More remote for Atticus

 November 10, 2020

Dear Mountain Ridge Middle School Families and Staff,

As we have shared with you over the past few weeks, we have had a number of COVID related situations impacting MRMS. We are following guidance from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment regarding isolation and quarantine of affected individuals.

These latest cases in our community have resulted in quarantines involving large numbers. Due to the lack of available substitute teachers to cover in-person classes and the large number of students in quarantine, we have made the decision to transition all learning at MRMS to virtual learning beginning on Wednesday, November 11. There will be no in-person learning Nov. 11 - Dec. 4 for MRMS, only virtual learning for all students.

Providing a high-quality educational experience for all students is the foundation of  the Douglas County School District. This has been increasingly difficult to maintain with so many students and staff impacted by COVID currently. This move to the remote environment allows teachers to directly engage with ALL students five days a week; instruction continues with students having opportunities for collaboration, feedback and support in a virtual community.

With our focus on the health and safety of our staff and students, combined with providing the best education possible, we made the decision to transition to virtual learning. MRMS will follow the linked schedule for the duration of the virtual learning period, meaning that students will be accessing classes remotely from home every day at the scheduled class time. Each team will share additional information with students and families.

Students will return to in-person learning on or after Monday, Dec. 7 based on their cohort schedule.

Athletics and activities will continue as scheduled per MRMS AA guidelines. Students who are not currently quarantined/isolated or symptomatic can continue with practices and competitions as previously scheduled while following MRMS AA and program guidelines.

Please monitor your family’s health during this time. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and/or shortness of breath. Other symptoms can include sore throat, congestion/runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache/body aches and new loss of taste or smell. If you have a concern, please contact your medical provider for guidance.

Thank you for doing your part in keeping our students and staff healthy and safe.
