Public Health Recommendation to Self-Quarantine for Exposure to an Individual with COVID like Illness
November 1, 2020
Attention Staff Member:
We want to make you aware that an individual at Bear Canyon Elementary School has COVID-19 like illness. DCSD has determined that you may have been exposed to this individual. Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you enter into quarantine at this time. This investigation is ongoing. If recommendations change, we will reach out with updated information. Please follow the instructions below.
Monitoring For Illness Through November 12 (return November 13), 2020
Symptoms of COVID-19 include development of a new:
Fever OR
Loss of taste or smell OR
Cough OR sore throat OR shortness of breath
Other additional symptoms that could be early signs of infection include body aches, extreme tiredness, headache, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, runny nose, chest congestion, or loss of taste or smell
Please monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. Take your temperature daily with a thermometer, and any other time you feel feverish. If you are taking any fever-reducing medicine (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen), take your temperature just before the next dose. If you have concerns about the severity of your symptoms, contact your medical provider.
Public Activities Restrictions Through November 12 (return November 13), 2020
Do not go to school and do not attend extracurricular activities
Do not participate in gatherings of large numbers of people (more than 10 people) and do not go to public places such as shopping centers, movie theatres, sporting events, or other similar public places
Do not travel by airplane, ship, long-distance bus, or train
Do not use public transportation, such as light rail, bus, taxi, or ride-share services
If you do not have fever or respiratory symptoms, you may participate in limited outdoor activities (e.g. take a walk) as long as you maintain a minimum six foot distance from any other individual
If you develop symptoms while in quarantine, you must stay home and isolate.
Stay at home and isolated from other people until:
Fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen)
AND
Symptoms have greatly improved for at least 24 hours
AND
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared
If you are concerned about the severity of your symptoms, then consult your healthcare provider. Contact the provider first before seeking medical care in person. If your condition requires calling 911, you must also inform the 911 operator that you had a potential exposure to COVID-19 and now have symptoms. Discussions for COVID-19 testing should be made with your healthcare provider.
If you choose to get tested for COVID-19 without symptoms, do so 7-10 days after the possible exposure. Be aware that a negative test result does not mean that you will not develop symptoms or become infected after the test. A negative test result only means that you did not have the virus detected at the time of testing. A negative test does not release an individual from quarantine.
If you have questions regarding these requirements, please contact your local public health department. If you live in Adams, Arapahoe or Douglas Counties, Colorado, please call 720-200-1579.
Thank you for your cooperation.
