Dear Mountain Vista High School Families,
We are excited to reopen our doors next week and welcome students back into the building! While we know this is a positive for most, we also understand the anxieties and uncertainties associated with this return.
In order to maintain safety during this pandemic, the Mountain Vista staff and the Douglas County School District have collaborated to make sure that students and staff enter, and are surrounded by, a safe environment. This plan is subject to change as guidance from the state and district evolves.
We need your help! While safety is never something we can guarantee, we can create the most suitable environment for learning by working together as a team. Please review these policy adjustments with your student so we can all be on the same page moving forward and keep our community safe.
ARRIVING AND DEPARTING MVHS |
| Students will have temperature and symptom checks at home each morning before arriving at school (parents will not need to fill a screening form out). Students should be kept at home if they have a fever above 100 degrees. Please monitor your student(s) for the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, head or body aches, sore throat, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, loss of taste/smell. |
A vs. B | COHORTS Students will NOT be allowed to enter the building during school hours on their non-cohort days. NO students will be allowed in the building on Fridays. |
 
| Student drop off and pick up locations will be the same as in previous years. These include the front main entrance, the west Commons entrance, and the north west entrance by the Temps. Students will be allowed in the building starting at 7a.m. ALL students will be expected to exit the building at the conclusion of 7th hour. Students who have specific extracurricular responsibilities will be asked to re-enter. |
| VISITORS TO MVHS will NOT be allowed during this time without specific approval from administration. Meetings will be held virtually. All approved visitors entering the building will be required to have a temperature check and wear a mask for the entire duration of time present. |
| Masks will be required to enter the building. Given the mask requirement and corresponding safety issues, students will not be allowed to wear HATS or HOODS while in the building.

DURING THE SCHOOL DAY |
| 25 hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the building. All classrooms will have hand sanitizer available for student use. Frequent hand washing will be highly encouraged.

| Hallways and Staircases
Main hallways will be separated to encourage one way traffic flow. Main staircases will be identified and monitored as one way during passing periods. Social distancing (6ft) will be expected from all individuals within the halls. Passing periods will be reduced to 4 minutes to encourage students to proceed to their next classes.

| LUNCHES Tables in the Commons have been reduced and labeled to meet social distancing guidelines. Students will be expected to sit only in designated seats. Tables will be set up outside in the courtyard to provide an opportunity for students to eat outside. Students in line for food must follow social distancing protocol. Students do not have to wear a mask while sitting and eating. However, they will be expected to wear one when moving about the Commons and waiting in line. Students will not be allowed to move from table to table during the lunch period. They will be expected to remain at the same table for the duration.

| IN THE CLASSROOM In-person Classroom Setup Consistent assigned seats for students in each class period. No shared seating like benches or couches. No soft seating like bean bags or comfy chairs.
Staff will be utilizing sanitation supplies in the classroom to sanitize high touch areas and surfaces at their discretion. MVHS custodial staff will follow district guidelines for sanitation and disinfecting throughout MVHS. Canvas will be used by all teachers this year. |
| STUDENT MATERIALS Lockers will not be available for the 2020 fall semester (spring TBD) Sharing of class materials will be limited, but necessary at times. Students and staff will be expected to appropriately clean shared materials in between uses. Hand washing or sanitizing will also be expected. Our drop off table for student materials will now be located inside the front main entrance doors.

| All water fountains have been turned off. Water bottle fillers will remain on. Students should bring a water bottle daily so that they have plenty of water to stay hydrated. |
| STUDENTS AND STAFF WHO ARE ILL We have created a designated area in our main office to help isolate students and staff who may be experiencing COVID-19 symptoms until they are able to leave the building. |
